Marching into Spring: Keeping Your Running Momentum Strong

March 04, 2025

March is here, and with it comes the first real hints of spring! The days are getting longer, the temperatures are starting to rise, and race season is kicking into gear. Whether you’ve been pounding the pavement all winter or you’re just shaking off the cold-weather blues, March is the perfect time to refresh your running routine and set new goals.

Spring Forward with Motivation
With daylight saving time giving us extra evening light, now’s a great time to shift those late-afternoon or after-work runs outdoors. If winter left you feeling sluggish, start small—commit to a short daily run and gradually build your stamina. A new season is a chance to reset your mindset!

March Races and Challenges to Keep You Moving
From St. Patrick’s Day 5Ks to Pi Day (3.14) runs, March is packed with fun-themed races. If you need motivation, sign up for an event—even a virtual challenge can keep you accountable. Bonus points if you run in something green or celebrate post-run with a slice of pie!

Tackling the Transition to Warmer Weather
Spring running comes with its own challenges. One day might be sunny and 60°F, the next might be a chilly downpour. Dress in layers, prepare for unpredictable conditions, and don’t be surprised if those spring allergies kick in. Hydration is key—warmer temps mean sweating more, so don’t slack on water intake.

Set a Goal for the Next Season
If you’ve been consistent through winter, March is a great time to set your sights on a longer race. Training for a spring half marathon? Planning a summer trail run? Setting a goal now will keep you motivated well beyond this month.

Enjoy the Run!
Take advantage of the season’s changing scenery—flowers blooming, fresh air, and birds chirping. It’s a reminder of why we love to run in the first place.

So lace up, shake off winter, and march forward—because your best runs are still ahead of you!
